Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba Complimented Daejayon Members on Their Green Movement

The “Green Campus Environmental Seminar With the President of Gabon” was held last Monday at Olympia Hall in Seoul Olympic Parktel. It was co-hosted by  Daejayon [International Association of University Students for Environmental Movement, President Kim Yong-gab:김용갑) and the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation (Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah :장길자회장)
250 people including Daejayon  President Kim  Yong-gab, Intl. WeLoveU Foundation Chairwoman  Zahng Gil-jah  and the board of directors, foreign exchange students, and  Daejayon  members who are working for Green Campus Movement attended the seminar.
The Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba who was in Korea to participate in the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit attended the seminar. He was accompanied by the Gabon’s foreign minister, investment minister, energy minister and deputy minister as well as by Park Sang-chul the chief of presidential security and Garlos Boungou the Gabon’s ambassador to Korea.
The seminar proceeded in a friendly atmosphere from beginning to end. When President Ondimba entered the hall, Daejayon members welcomed him with cheers and applause.  Daejayon  members presented the song, “Right Now, Right Here” that they composed by themselves, meaning, “We have to start the environmental movement right now and right here as soon as we realize.” The beautiful melody of the song impressed all people in the hall.
President Ondimba thanked Daejayon for inviting him and complimented various Green Movements of  Daejayon.  He also wanted to keep maintaining a friendly friendship with Daejayon .
“The fact that you are putting forth an effort into solving environmental problems despite your young age shows that you have mature civic awareness. I believe that this is the thing that the world must know and work on together. I give sincere compliment to you for your global environmental movement,” said the president.
“Gabon has abundant natural resources such as oil and natural gas, and has iron mines and manganese mines and so on. And the 80 percent of the whole area is covered with the forests of Congo Basin—the second lung of the earth. We can expect a better life only when we focus on environmental conservation as well as the development of the nation. Based on the three strategic pillars—green Gabon, industrial Gabon and Gabon of service, we will jump up to the level of an emerging country in the next 15 years,” he said.
He also added, “I hope this meaningful event today in Seoul will lead to relationship between Daejayon and Gabonese government, especially the youth of Gabon. I believe your Green School, Green Campus and Green World projects will be settled perfectly in Gabon. Please deliver your outstanding experience, knowledge and leadership to the youth of Gabon.”
It is reported that President  Ali Bongo Ondimba  made time and took part in the seminar despite his busy schedule. It is very unprecedented that a foreign summit meets an NGO individually during the state visit. In addition, it becomes one of the issues because the foreign summit made the friendly partnership to solve country’s environmental problems not with the governmental organization but with the university students.
“The Gabonese president considered attending the seminar since he planned his schedule to visit Korea to participate in the Nuclear Security Summit. Especially, the president suggested first to meet the members of  Daejayon  who are carrying out the environmental movement on a global scale. I think this would pave the way for introducing the Green Campus Movement of Korea to the world and for spreading the movement in Africa including Gabon,” Kim Jae-gyoon the general manager of Daejayon said.
The university students who took part in the seminar said, “It is very encouraging that a national leader has interest in the environmental problems and makes environmental policies.” Jung Soo-jin (Senior of Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies) said, “I feel friendly to Africa. And I feel confident that the world can be changed if the youth in the world share the environmental issues and make effort together. I will try to spread the Green Campus Movement of  Daejayon  to the whole world.”
Besides, President Ondimba met the  Intl. WeLoveU Foundation  Chairwoman  Zahng Gil-jah  who is carrying out the environmental welfare programs through the Clean World Movement. The Gabonese government and the   Intl. WeLoveU Foundation  signed the agreement on the joint action against international environmental problems.
“Green Campus Movement” that President Ondimba takes great interest and expectation in is the activities that universities save energy, reduce the green house gases and change campus into the low carbon green society.  Daejayon  is the major NGO carrying out the Green Campus Movement on a global scale. Moreover, Daejayon is drawing attention because of their activities together with private organizations, city governments and governmental organizations, not being limited to universities.
